In June 2004, Michel
de Fabiani was the first French national to be nominated Chairman
of the France-British Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Former Non-Executive
Director of the Institut Français du Pétrole (IFP),
Michel is currently Non-Executive Director for BP France, the Rhodia
Group, the Vallourec Group, EB TRANS, SEMS Morocco and Star Oil,
Mali. He is also President of the Board for the British Hertford
Hospital in Paris since November 2006 and the President and founder
of the Cercle Economique Sully.
After studying at secondary
schools in Lyon, he attended the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales
(HEC) one of the top Business Schools in Paris (1967). He went on
to join the BP Group in 1969 and held various posts in the company’s
Nutrition, Chemicals, Finance, and Oil businesses in Milan, Paris
and Brussels.
Michel was appointed
Chairman and CEO of BP France in 1995 and became CEO of the BP Fuels
Joint Venture in Europe in 1999 and Vice President Europe for the
BP Group in 1997.
He was also Vice President
of EUROPIA (the Brussels-based European Petroleum Industry Association)
from 1997 until March 2004.
Married to Marie-Odile
Bongard, he has a son and two daughters. He enjoys classical music,
fitness, collecting ancient books on Rome and Athens and miniature
cars.
